Welcome to Negar Shams's private Handmade Jewelry class. In these one-on-one (or small-session) lessons, Negar will teach you the basics of this intensive but highly rewarding and lucrative art.

Whether it's to explore creating custom designs, to accessorize certain outfits, or to create jewelry for costumes, you will learn the fundamentals of hand-making jewelry and be ready to set off on your own artistic journey. Negar offers three different courses that develop different skills, and each one ends with you having completed a piece of jewelry!

Art Clay Silver Leaf:

In this class, you will learn how to design, create, and complete a pure fine silver pendant or a pair of earrings using natural leaves for organic texture and design. The leaves will be coated in metal clay, then filed and fired. The natural leaves burn off, leaving a pure, fine silver leaf imprint behind.

You will also learn the burnishing techniques that help bring outshine or dimension in your organic created jewelry.

Jewelry & Metals I:

Perfect for beginners! In this class you will learn the basics of jewelry-making. Students will focus on drilling, sawing, filing, sanding, polishing and design. You will also learn the properties of metals like copper, brass, and silver and learn about tools. You will then create a copper or brass pendant.

Jewelry & Metals II*:

• Session one: Learn how to safely set up a soldering station, ignite your torch, anneal, and begin to solder metal together. You will focus on cutting and shaping the metals and learn the basics of soldering with silver. You will then learn how to make a sterling silver ring.

• Session two: Further develop your basic metalsmithing skills. You will learn bezel setting, wrapping bezels, and soldering/setting a round or oval cabochon stone. This is a great class if you want to learn how to add colorful stones to your work and increase your fabricating skills. You will create a silver ring or pendant using the cabochon stone.

*Jewelry & Metals I is a prerequisite.
